Race – AMA / District 36 Fall Series Cross Country – Rnd #3

Location – Wilseyville CA

Conditions – Woods and Extremely Dusty (Great Course minus the dust)!

We headed out to Wilseyville CA to chase the Championship for the District 36 Fall Country Series.  With 2 rounds down already, Jeremy is sitting in 3rd Place due to bike issues on the Opening Round.

I raced the day before and conditions were brutal with the dust which just hung in the air, making visibility very difficult.

When the shotgun went off, Jeremy didn’t get a good start and was 4th to the first turn.  His line started two rows back, so he had about 20 riders kicking up dust in front of him.  But by the end of the 1st lap, his Mach1/SRT/SixFivO KTM was running 2nd OA for the entire B Race, and 1st in Class.  The race was only 1.5 hrs, but the course was 11.5 miles long.  It was a huge decision for me on whether to pit Jeremy or not.  But after lap 2 he was winning the entire race by about 10 seconds, so I gambled and pitted him on lap 3.  None of the other riders pitted, and by the time he was out of the pits, it was a 10 WAY battle for the win.  All top contenders were separated by less than a minute with Jeremy now back in 3rd OA but still 1st in Class.

When they came out of the trees on the final lap, Jeremy, due to a tip over, had dropped back to 7th OA, and 3rd in class and that’s how he’d finish up.  A last mile mental mistake cost him the OA but he was back just under a minute off the winner and under 20 seconds from 1st and 2nd in his Class.  That race was by far the closest racing I’ve seen for the Top B riders.  When the dust finally settled, the top 10 of the race were separated by less than 2 minutes.

With the 3rd place finish, Jeremy will be in 2nd OA and chasing the leader for the Championship.  We still have 3 more rounds to go so we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for some good luck and some good racing.
