Memory Lane – Fools Gold 1987

Just For Fun …… Take a walk with us down memory lane.

If you remember the 1987 Fools Gold Enduro, a National that year, you will probably enjoy looking at the results from that Enduro.  If you’re young and/or new to the sport you will enjoy looking at how it was done before technology set in and the results were mailed to the riders.  Yea, that’s mailed as in take to the post office, and if we were lucky we got them within a month after the meet.   So take a look and then think about poor ol’ Dad and Grampa that had to wait for weeks instead of hours to see how they did.  And you just may find dad or grandpa listed.

CERA’s Crazy Miner Family Enduro Getting Ready To Rock!

CERA is gearing up for the upcoming Crazy Miner Family Enduro scheduled to run Saturday Oct 21, 2017.  The first rider(s) will be off and running at 9:01 am (Key Time 9:00) on an approximately 55 mile course.  While it’s still way too early to predict the weather conditions, we have placed a special request with the Forest Service for prime conditions.

Some need to know stuff:

  1. This is a Timekeeping Enduro.
  2. USFS approved Spark Arrestors are required.
  3. A current and valid OHV Registration Sticker (affixed to the bike) or license plate is required
  4. Must pass a Sound test not to exceed 96 dba (101 dba for vintage bikes – pre 1986).
  5. There will be a gas break back at camp at your vehicle so no remote gas can is needed.
  6. We will have Jart Charts available (providing Jart sill makes them).
  7. The route sheet will be posted approximately one week before the event.

The mail in and online entries are now open and we strongly encourage riders to sign up online.  This makes the bookkeeping easier and can eliminate errors that occur with information is taken from hand written entry forms, such as name spellings on the results and addresses for the trophy winners.

Online signups will close Sunday Oct 10 at 11:00 pm with the drawing the following day.  But if you miss this date you can still always post enter at the event.

Or if you don’t want to enter online or at the enduro you can go “old school” and download the Crazy Miner Flyer, fill out the attached entry form and mail it in to the address on the flyer.  Mail-in Entries also close October 10 and the drawing will be held Oct 11, 2017 (any entries received after the drawing date will be assigned numbers as they arrive.)  CERA is not responsible for late mail in entries that don’t make it to the enduro.

Fools Gold Enduro Runs Under Ideal Conditions.

Row 5 –Overall winner Ryan Powell 5A (on right)

The 2017 Fools Gold Enduro is now behind us and will go down as one of our best in recent years.  Last year we had ideal conditions and by good fortune, the same occurred this year.  A little rain the night before was not enough to postpone it but was enough to make for excellent riding conditions.

We received a lot of positive comments about the two loop course with the gas break back at camp and the shorter course.  The shorter course was actually due to the harsh winter rains that caused trail damage (slides and downed trees) that we were unable to get cleared up in time.

Congratulations to Ryan Powell who came home with the Overall Win carding a score of .0024.  Of note there were three tie breaker checks and Ryan got a perfect score on the first two.  I guess we need to make it a little harder next year?  Maybe.

By the number of riders at both the Sawmill and our Fools Gold it appears that Enduros are gaining popularity with the off-road riders.  Joey Fiasconaro, a top District 36 Cross Country racer, was heard to comment at the start of the second loop how much fun he was having and wanted to do more Enduros.

Finally….Thank you to all the participants that came out to support our Enduro.   And especially Thank You to all the CERA Members, their families and their friends that came out to volunteer to man checks, flag, mark the course and cleanup, and all the other jobs that must be done to make these Enduros happen.  Enduros are a Team Effort, no question.

Trophies will be in the mail shortly.
